RTT permit for research, test and trial

Before a pesticide can be registered, it has to be tested in India. An RTT permit lets you bring in or make the quantities those studies need.

In short

An RTT (research, test and trial) permit from CIB&RC authorises limited quantities of a pesticide to be imported or manufactured for laboratory studies and field trials that generate data for registration. Material under an RTT permit cannot be sold.

What does an RTT permit cover?

Quantities of technical or formulation for physico-chemical analysis, bio-efficacy and phytotoxicity trials, residue studies and similar work at recognised institutions. It is a research permission, not a commercial one.

How is the quantity decided?

It follows the trial plan: crops, locations, seasons, doses, replications and analytical needs. We work backwards from the protocol so the figure can be defended line by line.

How does it fit a registration plan?

Trials run over seasons. We align the RTT permit with a data gap analysis so the data generated is exactly what the dossier requires.

Which documents are needed?

  • Trial protocol and list of institutions
  • Quantity calculation
  • Specification and MSDS
  • Source details
  • Institution acceptance letters where available

The exact list depends on your product and business; we confirm it before filing.

Frequently asked questions

Can material imported under an RTT permit be sold?

No. It may be used only for the stated research purpose.

Do you conduct the trials?

Trials are conducted by accredited institutions. We plan the data requirement, coordinate with institutions and manage the permit.
